"Both are works of art and they're original."Yes, that's why the back end of the 7 looks so much like the LS. And don't spew your regular crap like how the LS copied the earlier 7 series. That makes no sense. Just face it, the 7 took a page (even if blindingly so) from the LS. S-class is the winner here between the two. — _43LE (View Profile)

BMW could come out tomorrow and claim that the LS inspired the new &-series, and BMW-only owners would simply latch onto another argument. The new LS looks NOTHING like any BMW rear (yes, I've seen the countless comparisons here...), the reality is that there is absolutely no way a BMW lover would care to admit it simply because Lexus had IN THE PAST emulate other makes, moreso MB than anyone else. What's worse is that people here will make "facts" up to justify their argument ("well...there was a prototype at some obscure show or blueprints for this technology LOOOOONG before Lexus used it").If you honestly want to kid yourself that MB, BMW or Audi don't have 1 or 2 stinkers in their stable, then you're a rabidly blind fanboy. And I own both an Audi and a BMW.— StarSearch (View Profile)

Benz hands down, it's the real deal... BMW is just fluff :)look at it this way Benz = Rolex, BMW = Tag HeuerBenz/Rolex = most recognized watch maker in the world - well deserved reputation through real craftsmanship, meticulous detail, quality and excellence (especially with the "in-house movements" i.e., actually worth the money.BMW/Tag Heuer = peddler of nothing more than a fashion accessory item with no real content and craftsmanship, uses cheap stamped out ETA movements and places greatest emphasis and company resources to marketing, advertising, polishing and glitter. Profits maximized through drastic cost cutting measures that are usually "hidden" from the consumer, wins over many fanboys through its flashy adverts, celebrity endorsements, badge engineering and promise of unwarranted claims to sporty performance, i.e., nicely wrapped garbage.— sector (View Profile)

that's funny, because I have a Rolex, and based on what you just said you obviously don't. Rolex's are the PINNACLE of "brand engineering", something you buy pretty much just because "it's a Rolex". A watch has one primary purpose, and that is to accurately tell time. Rolex's are among the absolute worst watches when it comes to performing that task. What they are GREAT at, however, is announcing to anyone who sees you wearing one that "I have a Rolex". It's a status symbol, something that makes a statement to people who have never owned one but drool over the possibility. Like you, apparently. So while your intention was to equate Rolex to masterpiece quality and tie that to Benz, they are in fact 100% the fashion statement you just tried to make fun of BMW for being. I guess it helps to know what you're talking about, but around here that's in short supply and definitely not a prerequisite for posting. You, Staarr, and Tecknik ought to hang out, assuming you're not all three the same person of course.— JRobUSC (View Profile)

Sector, you're clearly sharing an opinion on a topic you know nothing about.Rolex is the brand that's more 'fluff', while TAG has substance.Check out the innovations Tag has developed and educate yourself. A Tag was the first watch in space, because NASA believed it was the most reliable watch out there as a backup to there electronic watch.Furthermore, Tag has been the primary timer in Formula 1 and Le Mans, which require millisecond precision. But yes, I agree the S-Class is the better looking overall.— tifoso471 (View Profile)

It's difficult to let these watch entries go without comment. Though Cartier made the first series wristwatches, Rolex made the wristwatch a viable alternative to pocket watchs in the early part of last century. Rolex where the early innovators (first waterproof watch, invented and produced the self-winding feature, etc.) and brought high quality standards to the industry. Rolex is the most prestigious watch brand in the world for good reason, and they continue to produce a very high quality product of their own design and manufacture. They also sell more mechanical, high-end watches then any other maker (Cartier is second), but still keep supply at or below demand. One of the benefits of buying a Rolex is when it comes time to sell it the depreciation is the lowest of nearly any watch--and some models experience appreciation (maybe not right now in this economy). They are the gold standard watchmaker, in quality, prestige and marketing acumen.TAG Heuer began as a high quality clock, then watch, maker, they have become primarily a purveyor of nice designs with production ETA (owned by Omega/Swatch group) movements like many other middle quality watches. Their event timing clocks are far different than what you put on your wrist, they use electronics for accuracy that goes far beyond what a mechanical movement can provide--as does any quartz wristwatch.Omega was the first watch on the moon by the way, and probably for the reason that Omega provided the watches to NASA at no cost in order to use in their marketing efforts. Which they did with great success. Omega utilizes a new movement technology in some of their watches, Co-Axial escapement, developed by a third party, that improves accuracy and extends the service period of their movements.Any quartz watch is going to be more accurate than a mechanical movement, so if time-keeping is your measure of a watches quality then the high dollar watches are no good. But if craftsmanship, design, heft and sheer complexity of a quality movement is appealing, then the high-end watch market is for you. It's no different than the car market, if you just need reliable transportation, well the Korean's are building pretty good cars at the lowest price and that's where you may want to shop. But if you have the means and want something with style, substance and high technology that really moves you, you'll find yourself in a Eurocar showroom and spend the big dollars. And, as a result, people will know you spent a lot of money on a car (watch).I'll keep my Rolex Daytona, it gives me a certain pleasure each morning when I pick it up and slip it on my wrist. I also enjoy the weekly Sunday morning ritual of resetting my watch for the ten seconds its lost in the past week. — BobW (View Profile)

I like the front end of the S better, like the 7 from every other view (I hate the wheel arches on the S, and have never liked the back end). Interior isn't even close, the 7-Series is seriously much, MUCH nicer inside than the S-class. And I say that as someone who has actually been inside both cars for more than two minutes, not someone who has only seen photos or is basing their opinion on the fact that they just like one brand more than the other. The S-class basically has a dressed up version of the previous 7-Series interior, and it's not even that dressed up. There's a lot of exposed plastic in the center console, etc. The material fee, the fit and finish -- the new 7-Series absolutely rules the class interior-wise, at least until the new A8 comes out.— JRobUSC (View Profile)

by the way, back in 2006 when BMW came out with the restyled 7-Series, it outsold the S-class. Why? Because it was "new", and the S-class was about to be replaced with the S-class that is now out.You need to have lots of money to get $100k cars, and people with lots of money tend to like the cool, new thing. That's how it works in this segment. It's called a "cycle". Say it with me -- "cycle". The new 7-Series will likely outsell the others for awhile, right up until the next cool new thing comes out. — JRobUSC (View Profile)

Staarr, the funny thing is you actually think I am here championing BMW. If you actually paid any attention, and oddly enough you sure seem to pay a lot of attention to me, you'd see I am an equal opportunity defender. Because it wouldn't matter if we were talking about Audi, Mercedes, etc., I'm here to counterbalance the absolute ridiculousness of people like you. The only reason it's BMW in this case is because it's you I am talking to, and, let's be fair, you have a woody for being negative about BMW. I don't know why, I don't care why. Maybe a BMW ran over your dog. Maybe you're jealous they are so successful. Don't know, don't care. But you're the yin to AmazinBimmer's yang. You are EL34 without any pretense of being unbiased. And you can't deny it, all anyone needs to do is look at your avatar to understand you can't be taken seriously. Honestly I am not even sure why I bother responding to you, it's not like there's any possibility of an intelligent debate. You're just here to spew word vomit in the direction of BMW and watch people scramble who don't know any better. Good for you, I'm sure that's a very satisfying existence. So enjoy your time on this site. Make the best of it while you can. Eventually you're going to say something that gets you booted off, that's what always happens. Have a great day!— JRobUSC (View Profile)

I like regular S class more than the AMG kitted. I think it looks more classy and elegant. But still S class looks better, 7 series is not too behind though. It's definately growing on me.JUGNU— JUGNU (View Profile)

S Class hands down. There's reason S class designs and technologies had been fallowed by other manufacturers for forever. If you want to know what Lexus will be like in few year just look at S class and you'll get boring and boat like ride version for slightly cheaper. — 2001W210 (View Profile)

I like the S and I bought one. Didn't like the 7 until I saw it at the auto show. I was impressed. If I didn't have the S I would consider the new 7. Just reading through, have to comment the LS is a copy of last gen 7 rear. Everybody should know that. The S rear is from Maybach.Does it all matter? IDK. whoever is posting sales numbers for indication of winner is BS. Based on that I guess the F-150 is the best car in the world. Get a clue.— vonbeeler (View Profile)

S Class all day. I saw that new 7 at the Chicago Auto Show yesterday and while it does look much better in person the front end is off. The grills look better up close but are still too big and the lower air damn area needs to be restyled. I like the interior though, reminds me of the older 7's. It seems like the majority of people who've commented on this topic also think the S looks better.T— TauronB2G (View Profile)

I like the BMW front end better but I like the side profile and rear of the Merc the best. The Benz looks muscular and elegant at the same time, but it does needs some front end work. — stone (View Profile)

Both are designed to look how they are intended to portray. The Bimmer looks sporty, the S-Class looks luxurious. I would rather take the 7, but I think the S-Class looks much more elegant.Honestly, I prefer the last generation of both cars more than their current.— adamsaf723 (View Profile)

Oh i forgot we had to comment on DESIGN only! lol!Well, if i were to choose a car, it would be BMW. If my dad wanted one, he would go for the Merc.BMW's looks have that element of 'sportiness'. Merc's looks have that element of 'elegance'.— nite41 (View Profile)

The Benz is by far and away the better looking car. And this is when the BMW is the new generation!BMW's real dominance and leadership is in the 3 series compact sports sedan segment, fow which they rightfully deserve the crown, but at flagship executive sedans/limousines, the Merc leave the BMW eating dust.— tifoso471 (View Profile)

I must point out though, that while I shall never be a fan of BMW's flame surfacing, they are learning to evolve the design towards something that looks elegant and acceptable.— tifoso471 (View Profile)
