Simultaneously with the new V70, Volvo’s unveiling its crossover sibling, the 2008 XC70 at the 2007 Geneva Show.

Like its predecessor, the XC70 is basically a higher V70 (+75mm) with 4x4 design elements like the scratchproof protective cladding around the wheelarches and the chunkier, redesigned bumpers.

Available in Europe from this fall (US should get it a few months later), the XC70 will be offered with two motors, a 238Hp 3.2-litre straight six-cylinder petrol and a 185Hp 2.4-litre five-cylinder D5 turbo diesel. Available with Geartronic transmission only, the 3.2 accelerates from 0 to 60mph (96km/h) in 8.1 sec and achieves a 215km/h - 134mph top speed. The D5 is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Geartronic transmission. With the manual “tranny” the D5 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds reaching a maximum speed of 130 mph – 209 km/h.
