The FR500CJ Cobra Jet, which was introduced last year at the SEMA event, was the latest Mustang to become part of the Ford Racing range. The model was powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 that generates 400hp and a wheel and tire combination that is drag race-specific.

The 2009 model had only a limited run of 50 copies which were sold out within two weeks. It experienced its first win at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California in February of this year. Because of its success, Ford Racing intends to follow up with a 2010 Cobra Jet variant and production has been set to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and initial deliveries to begin early next year. The price for the base model will be under $75,000 and like the previous model, production will be restricted to 50 copies only. In keeping with the 2009 version, the 2010 Cobra Jet will be revised with parts from Ford Racing plus the supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that now produces 425hp.
