After taking an extended weekend we're back this beautiful March morning, kicking things off with details of the Mercedes AMG Driving Academy 2009/2010. Geared for those of you wishing to brush up on your driving skills under the guidance of professional instructors, the events of the new AMG Driving Academy have been expanded over years prior, with instruction given in a total of five skill levels: EMOTION, BASIC, ADVANCED, PRO and MASTERS.

The activities range from lifestyle-oriented events and race-training events all the way up to competitive racetrack training, each of which offers varying degrees of difficulty tailor-made to the individual needs of participants. Highlights include a drive to Lake Constance and through the landscapes of Vorarlberg to Bregenz/Austria; practicing on legendary racetracks such as the North Loop of the Nürburgring or the Grand Prix circuit in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium; and winter driving in in Arjeplog (Sweden) close to the Arctic Circle. There's also an AMG MASTERS Sports Trophy, which will allow 25 drivers to take part in various competitive events, with points awarded in each. At the end of the competition, the driver with the most points will be offered a unique opportunity: the ability to pilot the AMG Mercedes C-Class currently used in the DTM series.

Although I personally haven't attended the event, it sounds like a lot of fun. It's unfortunate, however, that the AMG driving events are so limited in scope. When we met with Mercedes, one of the main points we tried to emphasize was bringing owners together
on a regular basis through local activities, not just through visiting exotic locals. As much as I'd love to travel abroad to attend driving school, I think I and many of you would love the ability to get together each month on a local level with other AMG owners for some friendly competition.

But don't let my opinion take away from the AMG Driving Academy 2009/2010, because if you have the time, it should make for a kick-ass time.
