When it comes to buying a Ferrari with a story, it's typically not a wise decision to pick it up. You just never know what you're going to get. BUT, there are exceptions I've seen in my day.

Take, for example the incredibly rare racing Ferraris that have plenty of amazing heritage and have been cracked up. There's a few I know of in collections and you better believe they were worth a pretty penny.

Some folks love projects, some just like to see the narrative continue.

Now this brings us to our subject, an ultra rare Ferrari F50 painted in black. According to GTSpirit, this example has over 61,000 miles on the clock and the paperwork shows it is one of 56 U.S.-spec models. That means it's one of two black-from-the-factory cars.

In the video below you'll note that a bidder coughed up an incredible $446,000 for the less-than-stellar F50. Last I checked — this was years ago — an F50 was going for around $800,000 USD. I have no idea where the volatile Ferrari market prices the F50 at now but I'd wager this guy just inherited a million dollar project to fix it up right.

On October 29, 2013, Copart auctioned a 1995 Ferrari F50 (one of only 349 manufactured). After 258 preliminary and live auction bids from members in two countries and twelve states, the winner was a new member who registered just five days before the auction. The winning bid was placed through Copart's iPad mobile app. In less than 30 days on Copart.com, the vehicle was viewed 76,089 times through photos online and our mobile app. In addition, 103,594 viewed our YouTube video. Ultimately, onsite banner ads, social/viral marketing, print and email marketing tactics helped us exceed our seller's minimum by over $140,000.
