Mercedes-Benz's G-Class is one of the automotive industry's motoring icons. Similar to other bad-ass, off-road vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler and AM General Hummer, the G-Wagon has been around for ages and was originally conceived for military purposes — the Wrangler is not exactly tied to military history but that's a story for another day.

Although, in recent years, the G has been known as the go-to choice for Hollywood A-listers and the finance crowd working in urban jungles, we think that its latest effort is a reminder that the G is actually a purpose-built machine.

If you were bummed that we didn't get the outrageous 6x6 variant, have no fear. The 4x4 is destined for the U.S. market starting in 2017. Pricing has not been release yet but we're thinking this will easily sell for over the approximate $220,000 the G65 V12 commands.

One thing sticks in my mind, however. I just have to know: Do YOU think that the Mercedes-Benz G550 4x4 looks like a STUD or DUD with its raised suspension and HUGE tires?
