While last night the stage was set to change the trucking industry, really the event was about something else entirely. That would be the all-new Tesla Roadster.
And, Elon Musk made it very clear in both his presentation and some subtleties: He's here to end the internal combustion engine (ICE). What Agent 001 has been saying for eons is now fully revealed — TSLA is here to kill the auto industry as we know it.
REVEALED: Tesla SEMI and Tesla Roadster
So, what does the concept Roadster do? Well, blow people's minds first.
According to Musk, the Roadster will go zero to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and makes use of three motors. 100 mph comes in 4.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile happens in 8.9 seconds. The three motors churn out nearly 7,400 lb.-ft. of torque thanks to a 200-kWh battery pack. All said and done, the Roadster is being projected to hit 250 mph. Even better, the battery pack provides a 620-mile range.
If you're wondering what this will cost when it hits the ground in 2020, it won't be cheap. Base pricing starts at $200,000 and if you want a spot in line get ready to pony up $50,000 for a reservation. Almost sounds like a super expensive Kickstarter, right?
