Its plans to build a diesel version of the R8 were shelved by Audi, but it will be pushing through with a top-down Spyder copy. There are rumors coming out that the car will hit dealers by 2011 and will be equipped with a full-length soft-top in keeping with the carmaker’s penchant for lighter fabric roofs compared to retractable metal ones.

The Spyder will come with both the V8 and V10 variants and all will come with a full-length glass hood with an optional lighting kit to illuminate the engine bay. The model will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and although pricing is yet unavailable, there are speculations that suggest a $135,000 price tag can come with an entry-level V8.
