Audi R8 race car debuts
As this year’s Nurburgring 24 hour endurance challenge approaches several more carmakers have announced plans to enter the comp.

The latest is Audi, which plans to enter a race-prepped version of its R8 super-sports car in the grueling event.

In keeping with race regulations for its class, engineers have replaced the standard car’s 4.2L V8 with a race-spec 4.0L mill pumping out 530hp and 353 lb-ft of torque.

Talking about Audi. Who thought the Audi brand placement in Ironman was gauche. When Ironman drive to the airport to catch is plane, he is followed by his RR. It's like the RR Phantom became the most important car in the movie as it represent what the super wealthy drive. You actually get to see the RR Phantom more often than the R8. Other one was the S5. It was driven by the assistant. Not really a luxurious image. Moreover, the S5 didn't have that much screen presence. A C-Class, 3 series would have more screen presence. The Q7, instead of being in a good situation, the mother driving the Q7 was a frantic driver who ran over Ironman, who just saved her. I really thought that was some bad product placement. The RR Phantom was the winner as far as brand placement.

Couldnt agree more..except i thought the S5 looked hot. but in any case product placement these days is lame and overdone.

We must have not seen the same movie.
Yes we do see the RR, but to say we see it more than the R8 is stupid.
You see, and even hear the R8 along with a close up of the engine and the LED in the headlights when it stops.

Couldn't agree less. I enjoyed watching the R8. While the super rich might be chauffeur-driven in a Rolls-Royce for humdrum routine activities, they drive an R8 themselves when they want to have fun.

I thought the S5 looked smashing. Having Gwyneth Paltrow behind the wheel didn't hurt it's image either.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the scene where Jeff Bridges threatens a family in a Q7. But then I don't like SUVs in general.

By the way, one of that movie's weak points was the casting of Jeff Bridges as the heavy. LOL - Mr. Bridges is a fine actor, but he lacks the menace needed for a truly great villian, and his character is so oily and obsequious that i suspected that he was the bad guy almost from the very beginning.

What does this have to do with the article? Stop being jealous because Audi did an excellent tie-in in Iron Man. Millions of viewers diagree. Your just another ignorant Audi hater trying to look objective.

It's not because it's Audi. It could have been BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, or whatever. It just wasn't the best product placement. It would have been better if instead of a RR, his limo would have been an A8L W12. There are other product placement in the movie, and they were executed better: LG and Dell. When he was using his LG phone, he didn't pick up an iphone to do something else. The flat screens were LG, not Samsung. When Gwyneth Paltrow gets on the computer to download files, the viewer assosiate the cpu with Dell. There is not another competiting brand next to it. The R8 is a sweet car, no doubt about it. The marketing in the movie should have been better executed.

You sound like a BMW marketing goon :) don't forget, Audi's just a rookie when it comes tie ins like these. BMW's been at the forefront for calculated, strategic brand and product placement for the last 15-20 years so can't compare.

You must have missed the recent Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy race at Nurburgring where a prototype LF-A was the only car in its class to complete the race beating out cars like the Corvette and Aston Martin. Carry on trolling!

Most likely since AWD is probably not allowed.

AWD is allowed if it is fitted to the original vehicle and the car isn't competing in a class where the vehicles have to conform to other series regs (such as S2000 - which doesnt allow for AWD)

In the racing world a car doesn't have to look pretty to the eye. It's all about figures and getting the job done.

4WD is permitted, as would the cars original engine be, so they could run 4WD and they could run with the original engine.

4WD could be hugely beneficial if there is a rainstorm as there has been in previous years.
