It was announced by Audi today that it is planning to launch a number of its latest technologies targeted toward the improvement of vehicle efficiency.
These new technologies consist of the latest stop-start elements which will be available in the middle of this year, together with the latest regenerative braking systems and the latest modular efficiency platform which involves the onboard computer taking action in encouraging users to drive more efficiently with related displays on the car’s monitoring device. There will also be a gearshift indicator that informs the user when to shift for maximized fuel efficiency. Studies by Audi show that driving style account for 30 percent of fuel consumption. Like the systems of the competition, Audi’s start-stop system turns the engine off when the car comes to a full stop and the clutch is lowered. Then the engine comes back to life when the clutch is operated. With such a system, Audi expects a fuel savings of 0.2 liter per 100km and lowered carbon emission of up to 5g/km. The models that will receive the new system for the first time include the A3 1.4 TFSI and 2.0 A4 and A5 models. Other models will follow suit later this year. The purpose of the regenerative braking system is to create electrical energy and alleviate the alternator to save on fuel.
