One vehicle that many BMW diehards were looking out for was the all-new 1-Series. Then it made its long-awaited debut to what seemed like a lot of disappointment.
I mean, could BMW make the car's headlights any BIGGER or could it make the 1-Series look any goofier?
Recently though there was some hope for the 1'er as it was clear that BMW was up to something. A new 1-Series was spotted in development and although it seemed a bit early in the cycle, it appeared to be an M product.
Well, here it is.
Dubbed the M135i, it seems that BMW is slanting this as an M Performance product and not-so-much as a proper M car.
**Note: In the press release it says it is the first-ever M Performance vehicle to feature a petrol motor.
The above implies that an M Performance product is not the same as say a 1M, M3, M5, etc. It is more in line with the M Performance diesels.
This leads me to believe that a more hardcore 1M is on the way. Am I onto something here?
Aside from that, we're being told that the M135i hatch will NOT be making its way across the pond; however, rumors are circulating that a coupe version is what we'll actually get. Essentially though, it seems like that the 2013 135is will have to hold us over until the fully redesigned coupe debuts in the U.S.
I wouldn't sweat it though, as they both feature the 320 horsepower, forced-induction N55 powerplant.
