Bat-tastic! Batman’s Rides from The Dark Knight, Up Close and Personal
Anytime a movie is expected to make $100 Million the first weekend, you know it must be big.  Most of the time the movie getting the hype does not live up to expectations, but in the case of The Dark Knight the movie more than lived up to the hype.

A few months ago I was very critical of Speed Racer and of course a number of you chimed in to voice your opinion, some even telling me I was wrong.  I wouldn't expect that here, but I will state that The Dark Knight is by far the best Batman movie to date.  It is raw and edgy like Batman begins, and adds a component of plausibility to the story, especially in the case of Joker.  Sadly with the passing of Heath Ledger, the actor who played Joker, he will never be able to bask in the limelight of what a great performance he gave throughout the movie, you will be riveted to the screen but at the same time shocked by the Joker's sheer contempt.

And of course there is the Batmobile.  Simply called the Tumbler, with the motorcycle referred to as the Pod, Bruce Wayne does spend enough time behind the controls of both to really give any auto enthusiast some visual eye candy.  Of course with the inclusion of the Lamborghini which is filmed driving extensively through the streets of Gotham towards the end of the movie, the sights and sounds of that awesome car will thrill the soul with some great scenery to go along with it.

I have linked to an article in Car & Driver with some great shots of the cars used in the movie, and since I suspect a large number of you will probably see the movie this weekend, let me know what you think of The Dark Knight.

Saw the midnight show on Thursday, crowd of 6000+. Sold out 12 of 16 theaters. Movie is projected to make $155 million in 3 days of release, breaking all records. According to receipts, the film sold out 95% of all performances across the US this weekend on a record 4600 screens.

The film did meet all expectations and lived up to the hype that is surrounding it...it was truly fantastic. One of the best sequences involves the batmobile with Ledger driving the semi and Batman destroying it with the pod. Awesome scene.

Also for those who care, the film was shot in Chicago and the city looked amazing. TIP: See it in IMAX.

Agreed. The movie was excellent - Ledger was brilliant and haunting. A real must see for the summer.

IMAX is the only way you should see this movie (if possible, of course). Aaron Eckhart brings respect back to the character of Two-Face. The devil in me says there is only one reason why Katie Holmes should have been in this movie (that scene about 1hr 45min into the film -- I think you know what I'm talking about, *wink wink*). Otherwise, Maggie Gyllenhaal was is a 1000% improvement as Rachel Dawes.

As for Heath Ledger's Joker, I have a rather interesting take on it. Oh, it's an Oscar nomination worthy performance without question and it makes me wish he was still with us even if he never did the Joker again. But what I was getting at was that I thinking that every actor that has played The Joker has been perfectly cast in the role. Think about it:

- Caesar Romero was perfect for the cheesy 60's Batman show.
- Jack Nicholson was perfect for Tim Burton's 1988 Batman film.
- Mark Hamill was perfect as the voice of The Joker in the Batman/Justice League/Justice League Unlimted animated series.
- Heath Ledger was perfect for The Dark Knight.

As for the vehicles: LOVED THEM!

I am planning on seeing this movie again sometime this week at an IMAX theater. It was great on a big screen, I know it will be even better on a HUGE screen.

thought it might be cheezy.... glad to hear it isn't.. Don't think I'll be able to drag the girlfriend to that movie though..

Hopefully they'll do the same with the Transformers sequel, first one was cheezy.. second one isn't supposed to be like that, meant for a more mature crowd.

@ thisismyname,

"Don't think I'll be able to drag the girlfriend to that movie though.."

DON'T THINK, JUST DO IT!
She will be surprised as to how much she will enjoy it. Besides, you can always make it up to her by taking her to see "Mamma Mia"...unless you've already paid your dues by seeing "Sex and the City".

The Dark Knight was just awesome!

Just what I expected and Heath Ledger played a very good Joker!

It sucked that the tumbler got messed up, but the batpod made up for it.
