Breaking News: Bmw admits is thinking at diesel-powered M cars

In a recent interview, Bmw’s development boss Albert Biermann admitted that there will be a time when diesel engine technology will make it suitable to power a fully fledged M car.

“With cars like the X5 and X6 M, the torque characteristics of diesel engines would make them the ideal choice, were it not for their unsporting character,” Biermann said.

For those who don’t know, Bmw’s M division is already working to significantly reduce the carbon emissions of its sports cars and to develop performance applications of Bmw’s new hybrid technology. The German manufacturer is trying to introduce battery-assisted but, according to Biermann flywheel-driven ‘flybrids’ looks more promising.

At least they are correct in saying that the torque characteristics of a diesel engine make them ideal for the X5 and X6. I'll say it again, ///M needs to go back to its roots. Let BMW come up with another division to make ultrafast X5's X6's 7s....

Wait, just occurred to me, since these engines are blown, and Alpina has a reputation for FI engines, why not just brand high performance X5s, X6s, and 7s with an Alpina badge? Prestigious enough for me...

WTCC BMW-works drivers Augusto Farfus Jr and Jörg Müller will drive a diesel-powered BMW 320d in the Nürburgring 24 hours. This is the same race BMW WON in a Diesel previously. I think that is enough racing cred to earn the "M" on a street car. "M" means Motorsport and BMW wins with diesel so it makes sense that they would share the wealth with us since their racing programs always directly feed the production cars.

4 cyl in F1, 4 cyl in M3.

V10 in F1, V10 in M5/6.

V8 in F1, V8 in M3.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. The m3 has gradually been getting softer since the e36 m3 (which in my opinion was the last hardcore m3 out there.) Recently owners are whingeing about trunk size and the rear legroom, they're the ones responsible for diluting the brand. Pretty soon they'll give you a nice floral duvet with every purchase LOL.

Its amazing how Toyo/Lex fan-boys who obviously have NEVER DRIVEN A DIESEL can rail against anything diesel, while Toyota's bread-and-butter in Asia and the southern hemishere is pickup trucks powered by TOYOTA DIESEL engines. I'll bet Toyota's diesel vehicle production is greater than their Lexus division's global output.

Toyota should put their 3.5d engine into the Lexus IS to compete with the 335d.
The BMW would still whip their a55, as usual, but it would be a much more practical car.
