If there's one thing Volkswagen is known for, it's the company's hopped up Golf models. Across the globe, the Golf is the people's choice when they're looking for a healthy mix of fun and utility.

But, now there's a bit of a problem. Given that the Golf R and Golf GTI share the same size motor, it's not as differentiated as it once was. Remember the days of the MKIV R32 and its six-cylinder that made a lovely burble? Those days are gone as the R comes equipped with a 2.0-liter, forced induction four-cylinder, which is similar to the GTI's 2.0-liter four.

So, why do you choose the R over the GTI? All-wheel drive? More mature looks? Consumer Reports spells it out in the clip below.
