Cadillac’s next-generation flagship sedan receives green light

Now that the new GM is on track, plans for Cadillac’s next-generation flagship sedan are advancing too.

Rumors were heard of a Zeta-based vehicle sharing Pontiac G8 heritage or an XTS-badged RWD sedan.

The latest reports are that the Zeta-based solution has been dropped and that the new flagship, which is presumed to be named the XTS, will be riding on a lengthened version of the Sigma platform used for the CTS. The extra wheelbase and rear-seat room necessary for a full-size executive sedan would be a remarkable change from the CTS. Production of this new flagship car is expected to start December 2011 while an auto show debut is anticipated a few months before that. The car will be built in GM’s Oshawa, Ontario plant, as will the next-gen Buick Regal and Chevrolet Impala. Already being built there is the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.

Its about time Cadillac makes a flagship sedan. All premium brands has one and must be rear wheel drive.

Can't wait!
I hope they don't make the same mistake that Ford did with Lincoln. The MKS is HUGE car, but it looks so small.

Top Gear was actually able to drive the Sixteen. Anyone looking forward to the same type of Alfa Romeo style engine bay?

I checked out the MKS the other day and am more disappointed than I can find words for to describe. Ford has yet to learn how to make proper seats. The MKS seats were too narrow and lumpy. Come now Ford, you have a great top executive from the aircraft world so where is your comfortable automotive seat derived from the design of first-class seats used by airliners?

I gave up on Grand Marquis and all Ford cars almost a decade ago because of rust, poor seats and lack of advanced engines. Seat comfort remains an issue today. My advice to Ford is to simply clone the Mercedes S-class seats for all models. Do not make the Japanese mistake however of not having identical construction, features and adjustments for both front seats.

I agree with "wins 555" that the MKS should be a RWD car.

I doubt this car will have a V16 or that type of engine bay... Since it will actually BE a stretched CTS, I hope they don't make the mistake of making it look like that, too.

Hold on...am I seeing correctly? Which car is gonna get the 2.0 turbo? The article said the LaCrosse. Don't they mean the Regal/Invicta?
