When Aston Martin announced that the Virage was to be discontinued, it was disconcerting.
That's because the Virage was the middler between the DBS and the DB9. It had a touch more power and some neat little styling tricks that really spiffed up the DB9.
But Aston clearly had something up its sleeve.
That's because with the all-new Vanquish sitting on top of the lineup, it noticed it could plug a hole. Now, for 2013, the DB9 gets quite a few upgrades that make it a Virage plus, essentially.
Now power has been bumped to 510 ponies AND it gets the Virage styling cues. What's not to like about that? Remember, the DBS made 510 horsepower.
Clearly, Aston is stepping up its game to keep up with the competition.
But how does this all fair out? Only one way to find out, as Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe experiences the updated DB9 on camera.
The new Aston Martin DB9 gets styling cues from the Virage, and retains the 6.0-litre V12 but now in 510bhp tune. So has it moved on enough to justify its £132k price and rationalise the Aston range? Steve Sutcliffe finds out.
