Daimler plans to cut 1,000 jobs at Mercedes-Benz

Daimler wants to reduce the headcount at its Mercedes-Benz Cars premium division by 1,000 and will do so by offering a variety of buyout packages to staff, the German carmaker announced.

A company spokesman has said that management and labor representatives have agreed to offer staff up to 50 years old the chance at voluntary redundancies.

Currently, there are 45,000 employees in Germany for the Mercedes-Benz car arm, which includes the Mercedes, Smart and Maybach brands. Reuters had reported that according to sources, Daimler was planning buyouts to reduce its headcount.

The truth is when you hear about job cuts such as this about half the workers will be moved to other plants to fill in for sick or retireing workers and the other half will be laid off with some sort of sub-pay for a few months until they can be placed somewhere if they are full time and not temps.

Maybe they can find a job Audi. I hear they are hiring with all that cash they have. Oh wait, they want quality workers. Maybe BMW then. OOPs, they have no cash.

With 45K, they still cant get a grasp of quality control assurance. I doubt 1K cut in employees will do anything to help them cope with the struggling sales in the auto industry
