FACE OFF FRIDAY: What's Better Looking? Range Rover Sport Or BMW X6?
It's always hard to tell exactly how a car looks just in photos.
You really need to see it in person, driving on the street and next to its key competitors before you can make a final judgement.
So this morning by chance, I parked the new X6 next to one of its new arch enemies, the Range Rover Sport to see how they compared.
The Range Rover Sport is one of if not the prettiest SUV's out there and on a side note, a vehicle that NO woman on earth doesn't want.
Take a look at the photos of the two side by side and YOU make the call...
What's the better looking ride?
Range Rover Sport or has BMW stolen the crown?
And don't forget to keep checking our
2008 Bimmerfest gallery
often for updates.
Here are a couple good links to the show if you're thinking of attending:
2008 Bimmerfest Facebook Page
Official Bimmerfest.com event site
Maybe we'll see you all there!
And don't forget to wash your car this weekend! ;)

I thought BMW evolutioned this design theme when they owned Range Rover. Even used BMW 4.4L engine for awhile. It does look "timeless."

At our location we sell both the Range Rover and BMW X6. The Range Rover to me, looks dated in the pictures. Again, those that have not seen the X6, go to your local dealer and take a look at it. It is larger and has a much greater presence in Real life vs in pictures.

Its very hard to compete with Range Rovers design. Although the X6 is more flashy and will look cooler for the first year, the Range Rover will never age. I see a 1994 Range Rover 4.6 HSE and they still look good, timeless design will do that.

Yes you are correct, i was reffering to the RR and not the RR sport, didnt even notice in the pictures. Although i think the RR sport looks decent too,but its looks and name write a check that the engine and chassie just cant cash.

the sport never had the same presence as as the "REAL" RR. And sadly enough, the sport has a shitty interior - even compared to a dated BMW interior. Performance wise, the V8 X6 should own even the Super Charged Sport.
but it all depends on whose little brother you want to take out to play!

Simple really, if you want a true offroad vehicle (locking diffs, low rage gearbox) that looks just as good doing it, buy Range Rover. If you've sold your soul to the devil and BMW marketing machine has already clouded your judgment into buying a pointless/non-practical vehicle that doesn't work offroad, you buy the X6.

yeah and the last time I went offroad in a $70k vehicle to use it what it is for, was never. How many people actually use their SUV's for they where intended for anyways? 90% of the people that buy the Range Rover, never go near anything off road. The closest they come is their driveway, which technically is off of the road .

The BMW X6 certainly looks sleeker, but the Range Rover Sport has more rear-seat headroom, more cargo space, and is much more capable offroad than the X6. If I need a SUV (and I don't), the Range Rover Sport wins this comparison easily.

when are you going to go off-road? Actually, the X6 is as big in the rear seat as the Range Rover Sport. You would be surprised if and when you see it in person. Plus the Performance of the Range Rover Sport is nowhere near the X6. The X6 embarasses the Range Rover Sport.

Comments from a RRS owner.
That is the same color as my RRS but I have the black interior. Thanks for posting these pictures. I didn't realize the X6 was that big. Judging from the rear, it doesn't look so bad anymore when I realize the size porportions.
I still prefer my RRS for several reasons -- towing, offroad capabilities. These are 2 things the X6 lacks. I am sure the X6 is a faster, more docile and agile machine but I don't need that in a SUV. If I wanted that, I'd get a M5 or a Porsche 997. I tow with my RRS twice a month so I can't give that up.
The X6 will probably be very popular this year because it is the latest, new kid on the block. However, in 2 years, the RRS will get the 5.0 engine with 500 hp and I've seen the new Jaguar XF interior on the RRS in spy photos. By that time, I'll upgrade.
As for my opinion, I still pick a RRS again today. 2 years of ownership and ZERO problems. 10 year of LR ownership and zero problems.

Well, why NOT get a Supercharged if you can? He may not buy for the performance, but it probably offers better towing capability, not to mention the extra grunt is always nice to have. The X6 only offers performance; the RRS-S has both, albeit much less performance than the BMW.

CommonSense01.
I didn't get the SC version. I have the HSE because I needed the smaller wheels and locking rear heavy duty differentials.
20" stormer wheels and Brembo brakes won't cut it in offroad situations. If you notice, all the RRS used for offroading
uses smaller 18" LR3 wheels. Heck, I'm ashame to say that Land Rover, Porsche and all these manufactures give you crappy performance summer tires that are useless in the snow or beach.
When you get stuck in at the beach, the kid in the Audi A4 or WRX will be clowing your ass.
Again, I don't need 0-60 in 6 or 7 seconds for a SUV.

I driven the X6 3.5 and I shake my head. What a totally unnecessary, perhaps ridiculous, vehicle, but how unbelievably delecious to drive! Regarding looks, it's way better than I expected and better than the more dated RRS (which is really a LR3 Sport). I can't help but think a 335XiT (when will that come to USA?)or X5 make more sense, but then that X6 is something else to drive.

The RR Sport in traditional terms is more pretty, but the X6 has its own appeal. Its got a certain modern funky-ness to it that announces to the world you're driving the cutting edge.

Actually, the X6 XDrive 3.5 starts at $53K, which is similar to the RR Sport HSE's $57K starting point. They have the same power output, I believe. That's in US prices, though; might be different where you live.

Are you for serious, comparing the absurd monstrosity that is the X6 with probably the classiest sports SUV in the market is like asking for trouble. The Range Rover Sport is a hot piece of metal, it looks proud and tough, the silhouette is a transformation of the timeless Range Rover shape which has carried Kings and Queen, and mafias, and the illegal presidents of Africa. All the bada** people drive a Range Rover. It is the ride of footballers, David Beckham has got one. Certainly the most posh SUV in the planet, the most handsome, and the most brute looking at the same time, the design of the Range Rover Sport is aggressive and seriously cutting edge sharp, and the whole car is made of huge hunks of metal unlike the plastic body panels of the X6. The Range Rover sport is solid and really gives you a sense of momentum when the speed picks up, comparably the BMWs feel like skinny metal that is running light of the manly crudeness of the Range Rover sport. The X6 looks like a whale, big head and small tail, really looks like a fish or a frog. Very ugly stature and stance indeed. A very unnatural shape that evokes no sense of beauty and i can vomit for all i care about this design of the X6. My words are crude, and crass, but for such mutilated shape, i have only such words. It is disgusting the X6.

Range Rover Sport, but not by too much. The X6 is aerodynamic, and I like it more than the X5, ML & Q7 (yes, I know the X5, ML & Q7 aren't the X6's competitors), but I think the RR Sport is one of the best SUV's around today. It isn't too full on, like the Range Rover Vogue, but it doesn't drop everything off; it still keeps the good bits from the RR Vogue.
