Edmunds is just jealous that they didn't get a piece of our tax money. During the CFC program, millions of americans used Edmunds to do all their search and learn all they can before making their purchases, Edmund got nothing for providing us with everything we need. If they made a dollar for every hit to their site when the program was in effect, they'd wouldn't be sounding like a bunch of sore loser republicans as they do now.

No it's not gaining momentum, it was the CFC program that jump started the oct. sales, auto sales was sucking all the way until the program kicked in and would've continued to suck if Obama didn't step in. It's consumer CONFIDENCE that got oct sales to a better start. The american people felt that with govt. backing it was safe to spend. Edmunds need to just stick with providing us with basic infos on vehicles and stop trying to be wallstreet analysts and forecasters. We know how successful those idiots were.

if government run health care is so efficient in every other developed nation, what will stop it from being efficient in the united states? either we have fundamental changes that need to be made to make our government more efficient, or the "government inefficiency" notion is a mere cliche.

how are other comparable democracies able to have the faith of the people, while ours does not? are there flaws in our government we are not fixing, or flaws in our culture?

Politicians can be terrible, but they only have to earn a vote. I have been completely satisfied with my UNH coverage over the last several years. And speaking of raping, with Social Security and Medicare nearing financial implosion (from too many outflows and are too little inflows), why would we create ANOTHER huge government entitlement? The taxpayers will be the ones getting raped.

Theoptimisticpessmist: The "public option" aka government healthcare would force doctors and providers (look they do with Medicare) to provide services at below market levels.

1995e34: Government run health care is so efficient in other countries? I think you need to do some homework before making those statements. Do you not count month long wait lists for appointments and procedures as inefficient? Government health care programs have to ration services to be affordable. That is completely inefficient. Try to take an economics class.

To all of you proponents of government run healthcare, remember what the politicians (read Dems) were saying about Cash for Clunkers. We were told it would stimulate the economy. Instead we got artificially high sales over the last few months. October sales will go back to being dismal. We added more red to our exploding national deficit. And taxpayers paid $24,000 per clunker? Talk about government failure and inefficiency.

No the point of cash for "clunckers" was to remove "Clunkers" of the roads and somewhat stimulate the economy which it did just that. Lowering our dependence of foreign oil by putting more fuel effeicint cars on the road.

1UAW, you might want to stick to installing doors on the assembly line instead of discussing economics with the big boys (aka people with educations).

According to the WSJ (that is a financial newspaper), the program neither helped the economy nor the environment. The WSJ cited the Hudson Institute, saying at best the program cut oil consumption by 0.2% per year (less than a single day's gasoline use). Is that really worth $24,000 per taxpayer? I don't think so.

i don't think waiting times have anything to do with efficiency. i would consider that a qualitative attribute. efficiency has to do with services rendered per dollar paid, in which case public health care is far more efficient.

can you provide some statistical data showing wait times by nation? i'd like to see it. seriously.

i can provide scores of information on better health results in nations with socialized medicine. im sure the world health organization would back me up.

why do you not see the 15% of u.s. citizens not covered by private health insurance as corporate inefficiency? what makes you think private health insurers are any less bureaucratic than the federal government? also, why would you claim the government plan would ration care when clearly the insurance companies are already doing this? is it not rationing care when an insurance company drops a sick persons coverage?

you are arguing that the world is flat when everybody and his brother have sailed across the globe. the only people that are buying the fear mongering about public health care are those of utmost ignorance in our society. anybody that makes an honest effort to learn about the services being provided in every other developed nation have favorable things to say.

public health care in europe is mopping the floors with the american system in just about every conceivable category for FAR less money. the disgraceful part is that we have the best technology and are still losing!

there really are no reasonable arguments against a public option. the fight against public health care is political. republicans know that if it passes, their party will cease to exist. they have fought tooth and nail to make government fail so that the can maintain the myth that government always fails.

of coarse government fails when you have people on the inside trying to sabotage it to scare people away from it. personally thats the only rational explanation i can think of for the u.s. being in iraq (different topic altogether). blow all the public money on something that will deliver practically nothing to the people (military) so they lose faith in the government. clever.

the united states is hardly a free market. look around the room right now. look at the computer in front of you. look at every little piece of technology, the food in your fridge, the paint on your walls, the clothes on your back. how many of these things have been free of major government subsidies.

we'd all be vegetarians if it werent for uncle sam. we'd also never have become a super power if it werent for the federal government guiding many, many, many aspects of our economy.

i dont think its marxist to be able to see the benefits of government tinkering in certain industries. particularly industries that are not innovating new products or services (utilities, insurance, etc).

1995e34, if you want an example of how a market system drives cost down, just look at elective surgeries (plastic surgery, laser hair removal, etc.). Every year the prices come down and the technology gets better.

Wait times in Canada and Western Europe for elective surgery is far higher. For example, cataract surgery has an 18 month waiting surgery. Hip surgery has an 18 month waiting list as well. These are procedures Americans can schedule and be done within a week. Isn't that efficient?

The U.S. doesn't need any more entitlement programs than it has already. Part of being an adult is providing for yourself and your family. The government can't and shouldn't do everything for you.

i think your opposition is purely philosophical.

i agree adults should take care of themselves and their family. nationalized health care does that.

i think you have focused too much on the notion of "those people" getting something for free. "those people" walk our tax funded streets, and are able to enjoy the benefits of mine and your hard work. just for the record, i'm also a hard working american.

sometimes you just have to stop worrying about what the next guy is getting for free. i have 6 neices/nephews, and every time i cook them food, they are sizing up each others servings.

ultimately, those manipulating a system and getting a free ride will never have a fulfilling life. they lose.

your right, the government shouldnt do everything for you. but if you were hardline enough about that stance, we would cease to exist as a nation. we would have no social security, medicare, public roads, military, etc. public health care is just as important part of our national infrastructure as anything else. theres really no fighting it.

i HIGHLY recommend people start using their energy to come up with ideas to make this work efficiently rather than defeat it. its going to happen, might as well put your efforts towards making it work well...but then obama is a shoo in for 2012 if you do.

They are probably looking at trends of sales by month over many years (as you can see in their data November has lower sales than other months) but overall the data is a somewhat educated guess about how the future sales would have been. But in the end, their data is a guess.

Recently there have been plenty of articles about junk yards hiring additional people to deal with the extra amount of cars that came from the Clunkers program. Obviously it's probably not a huge amount, but anything is better than nothing, and the official tally of stimulus created jobs is about 30,000. So clunkers did alright for its budget.

i agree, a mixed system is best. france has shown this. i think even the most liberal in the u.s. congress would agree. in the united states, we have people talking about any steps towards public health care means we are automatically belarus.

u.s. citizens wouldnt even have to pay higher taxes. just cut our military in half, and we can spend like drunken sailors.
