Yesterday, we reported that Ford will be investing a total of $440 million in its Michigan Assembly plant backed by a $159 million credit from Michigan state. FoMoCo today released in an official statement confirming the report saying that it will invest a total of $550 million to transform the Michigan Assembly plant from a large SUV factory to small-car plant.
It also confirmed that the next-generation Ford Focus, built on a new global C-car platform, will begin rolling off the line next year. Ford said that the Michigan Assembly plant will also built the battery-electric version of the Focus, the company’s first all-electric passenger car, in 2011.
