There is one hot debate going on at M3post.

com and it appears that BMW has something very exciting in the pipeline and it will NOT be an M3 CSL.  The internet rumor mill is suggesting that a GT/GT4/Club Sport-type racer is the mystery car lapping the 'Ring.

Here is more detailed information thanks to M3post's users:

"Name
  • It won't be called M3 CSL.
  • Instead, BMW will either call it "M3 GT4 Street" or "M3 GT".
Engine | Drivetrain
  • Naturally aspirated engine with an increased displacement of 4,400 cc (based on the S65).
  • At least 450 hp, likely more. (445 HP)
  • No information regarding KERS (KERS will likely debut in the F10 M5)
  • 7 speed DCT only, no manual transmission.
  • 'State of the art' exhaust system, but not Akrapovic.- (ARVIN MERITOR /w/200-cell race cats and 2 resonators)
Chassis | Brakes | Aerodynamics:
  • Brembo brakes (6 pistons front - 4 pistons rear) with steel brake discs. (365mm front, 345mm rear SLOTTED DISCS) Ceramic composite brakes optionally available......"

I guess they are trying to put it up against the Black Series CLK. I hope this car comes without the roll cage.

This picture is not indicative of what it will look like. Simply a file photo.

From the spy photos it looks pretty similar to the regular M3 with an added spoiler/wing.

If this DOES progress, I am sure BMW will ensure different styling.

I'd expect this car to run somewhere in the ~$100,000 region as they are expecting to only produce ~20 units a year (so the rumor goes). Just the idea of an existing M3 only 200lbs lighter, with 30 more hp, bigger brakes, and reduced unsprung mass makes my skin tingle...

Mine, too. But at $125,000 (by other forums) that will be an Audi R8 territory. I'm not surprised now that BMW will not be bringing this over to the US.
