GM Officially Announces Buick Regal For US Next Year

We all knew it was coming, now its official!

From GM: As part of Buick GMC’s strategy to engage and listen to its dealers, more than 1,000 dealers this week will be the first to learn the name of Buick’s next mid-size sport sedan will be the Buick Regal.

The announcement was made at the Buick GMC dealer business meeting.

“The transformation of Buick began with our luxury crossover, the Buick Enclave and continued this year with the launch of the 2010 LaCrosse premium sedan,” said Susan Docherty, Buick GMC General Manager. “We’re thrilled to announce that the Regal will be the next member of the Buick family.”

The Opel Insignia is another nice vehicle for GM to re-badge from their over seas brand, but I think it is nothing more than another FWD competitor to the entire US General Motors line-up. This car will also compete directly with the FWD Taurus. Car already has too many competitors, IMO.

Well not directly. The size of the Regal is about that of an Acura TL and Saab 9 5.

You are right. I didn't read up on it's size prior to posting it as a competitor to the Taurus. Furthermore, if offered in the US as an AWD wagon, I can see it being a stand out.

Actually, its based on the Epsilon II FWD platform (SAAB 9 5, new 2011 Malibu) the CTS has its own dedicated premium RWD platform.

They are all the same model, no longer version, etc. Buick in China does have other vehicles and is the best selling brand there. With the Insignia, its only difference is what is offered in different regions in terms of features, engines. Buick Regal in China has been the leading import name for years. We are familiar with the name, its awesome to have a channel for Opel's products. Saturn tried to promote the re-badged line, but it seemed limited to flourish under the old GM. Lessoned learned.

its a nice looking car....from the side i see BMW 5 series or Hyundai Genesis, and from the rear i see Acura TL...... but again its a sharp looking car!

hope they get around to a higher performance variant, and ressurect one of the great Buick performance names, like Grand National or Wildcat. The '65 Buick Wildcat Coupe is one of the sexiest American cars ever made, it would be nice to see something like that again...

I snagged a new LaCrosse at the rental counter last weekend. It was pretty nice. The car looks great in person, and the interior is also a very nice place to spend time. The only dissapointment was that it was a CX model with cloth seats (yuck!), no USB ipod integration (only aux), and the base 3.0 V6, so it wasn't the least bit quick... but I guess that's the way the rental company ordered it, and it was none the less a very pleasing and stylish companion.
One nice unexpected touch: the new LaCrosse had the one-touch Cadillac ignition. If you've ever owned a Cadillac, then you know what I'm talking about.

(If not: Cadillacs (for more than 10 years now) have an automatic one-touch ignition. Instead of twisting and holding the key until the engine starts like every other car, you just give it one flick and let go, the ignition will engage on its own after that)

The car has an interesting pulled back look - with its exterior character line that starts near the fender signal lights, down, and back which translates into the interior's handlebars on the doors. The Nav area isn't as nice as the LaCrosse, but I'm guessing that's the point... oh, and the center backseat looks rather useful, with its wide hip area and huge headrest. Nice car, overall.
