Has Mazda's product line finally caught up with Toyota and Honda?
After reading one of several reviews of the new Mazda 6 and how it has have caught up with the CamCord lines, one has to wonder if some form of parody has finally appeared among them. The Mazda 3 consistently beats the Civic and Corolla(though not in sales) in comparison tests and with this most recent test of the Highlander/Pilot and CX9 one has to wonder. The CX-9 is almost three years old now and the competitors are relatively new if not brand new. They (Mazda) still have some holes to fill with "competitive" products such as a compact SUV that is more inline with their school of thought, but IMO I think they are well on their way. So tell me car lovers are they finally there? Read Article

I would have to agree on the most part, but many of their cars need to be updated such as the rx-8 and soon the miata. Also, they don't have as many products as honda/toyota, though that's not a bad thing.

you're so biased.

Mazda 3 looks a lot better than a Corolla.
Mazda 6 looks a lot "cooler" than a Camry.
CX-9 looks so much better than a 4Runner.
Highlander looks better than the CX-7

The 3 is the best for fun.
The speed3 is the best for performance AND price
The New 6 needs to be reviewed in total for US model.
The SUV models ALL need to get on board with MPG.
They simply suck.
Fun is fun...but by God we need to show something towards MPG!

I actually agree with you to a point. Their CUV's need a hybrid of some kind soon. The CX-9/7 would benefit greatly from a 500lb weight lose and a hybrid or diesel power train option. Maybe with the next generations they will address these issues. More high strength steel and aluminum would help.

cx 9 is the slowest, least fuel efficient but it looks kinda cool so it wins!

Read the article. The Pilot is the slowest.

The CX9 is definitely a plodder when you hit the gas; it feels exactly like the IS250 when you floor it - goes nowhere, fast. And the fuel economy is a bit of a let down. However, I can't think of any SUV under $40k that comes with as many options as they have; and it looks good to boot. It seems like everything in the car is controlled by a button. And the size of the passenger doors; opening one up is like opening up a bank vault.

To me, among all three, CX9 looks the best.

Highlander looks sad/angry, and the new Pilot looks like a goldfish I used to have.

Hey nitephire, Cx-9 is the slowest through the slalom. So yes its faster if you're not turning.

Caught up? Well, in terms of style, features and the fun-to-drive factor - Mazda is WAY ahead of Toyota/Honda.

agree with M35MT. they are completely underrated. CX9 is a terrific vehicle and it is fun to drive. Would have bought but no dealer in my area so went MDX. 3 is category leader and 6 will be a hit. my dad has the 5 and that little van (based on the 3 platform) is actually fun to drive. They do need to do better on fuel economy though. if there's a sleeper in the asian import arena it is them. lack of marketing budget hurts them.

In terms of design Mazda has the slight edge but overall quality and refinement, still lacking.

Civic has 5 spd auto - 3 has slow react. 4 spd auto. I drove a 3 yesterday. Over all refinement needs to really catch up to the rest - I have a CX7 w/ fully magically scuffed up doors and carpeting?!

222max...
The mazda6 DOES look verrrry promising.
But I am torn between it and the new Jetta TDI sports wagon.
NOBODY will give me a wagon!
But NOW it seems I have to wait to see the 2010 Taurua and the December Audi a4 Avant.
Su[pposed to be awesome and 33 mpg!

I don't understand...you sort of agree with me, but then you did.
What is it you exactly dissagree with?
I am a Mazda guy.
Its the one of a few companies that STILL puts its heart into cars that are fun to drive.
Yoou find reasond to go out for a loaf of bread!
But, I hope they can give me something soon to help on the highway in MPG.
I mean, I was sooo hoping the CX7 was going to be more and was really dissapointed in the 22 hwy when it came out.
But the speed3.OMG!
I wish my wife wasn't so much bigger than me or I'd have one!

I feel that most manufacturers are struggling with fuel economy in one form or another its just that Mazda with the CX9 is a little further behind the pack. But yes I do agree with you.

For the suv's the Highlander is the clear performance leader! And as far as the Mazda-3 vs the civic, the Honda civic outperforms the 3 in everything like handling, braking and slalom speed, and crash test standards, except in acceleration the Mazda three is faster, as for the Mazda-3 speed vs the Civic SI again the Honda outperforms the Speed in everything except acceleration. Why does everyone think that Mazda's handle so well? Its all advertising!
Numbers speak louder than bias!!!!!

The Civic drives the slalom speed faster than the Mazda-3 in every article that I have read. The Mazda may feel like it handles better? But when you crunch the numbers the civic comes out on top and it is also better on gas. I did consider the Mazda but the crash standards for rear passengers were poor and the civic had the highest ratings all around. I am loyal to no brands! I love and hate them all, I just hate some a lot less.If you don't have kids or don't like your kids this Mazda-3 may be your car.

There are facts and there are bias, there is a difference. It is a fact that the civic handles better that the Mazda-3! Don't take my word for it read up on it.Deboost the truth! lol
