That seems sort of backwards, doesn't it? Typically when one totals a vehicle it becomes worthless except for whatever can be made of the spare parts. Hence the term "spares" for cars that are valuable simply for that reason alone.

In this particular situation though, it seems that a French artist made out like a bandit. Bertrand Lavier must be one of the world's best pitchmen because he somehow managed to sell a Ferrari 308 GT4 for a monumental $250,000 USD.

To put this in perspective, the Ferrari 308 GT4 is known by some as a Dino. That's because the factory named it that — after Enzo Ferrari's deceased son — until 1976. The GT4 is not a desirable Ferrari by any stretch of the imagination as most four-seater F cars are just not lusted after.

Now here's the crazy part: a used 308 GT4 in good working order probably can be had for less than $50,000.

Frankly, if I didn't know any better I'd say this Frenchman is a con-ARTIST.
