No, why get an import when I can get an even nicer looking Camaro with even more power? This being said, I won't be in the market for a new sporty car anytime soon. My next vehicle will probably be some older muscle so I have something to tinker with.

Hope its not the new TC but if it is at least it will be an actual rear wheel drive car.

Also, am I the only that thinks that Toyota should use the powertrain from the new LF-A and bring back the supra. I mean since they are already working on this why not put a real sports car in the market.

No, I wouldn't be buying a convertible version. The extra weight of the convertible defeats the purpose of this car to me. I will, however, strongly consider the hardtop.

Look-beauty and appeal are in the eye of the beholder. Some people find the big bruising muscle car experience more appealing then the light nimble high strung sports car. The Camaro is beautiful in styling and it's got plenty of power. GM did scrimp a bit on interior quality and the handling while reasonable could be better. Personally I prefer the Mustang. No it's not quite as pretty(although I think the front end is more attractive then Camaro)but it's easier to see out of,it's more practicle,the engine sound is nicer as is the interior, and Ford has done an ingenious job of making it handle with a solid rear axle.Yet it's still a big bruising muscle car. The Toyabaru is a totally different kind of car.It's going to be a lot smaller and lower to the ground.It will probably weigh in well under 3000 LBS. The flat four Subi engine has a rather unique sound to it and will give the car a lower center of gravity. If they get 220 HP out of it it should be quite quick at say 2600 LBS. Further it's fuel economy should be very good. I really don't care if Toyota market's under Scion or says it's the new Celica. I think for the price it's going to be a smoking deal.Further in a convertable the Toybaru will finally have a product to give the MX5 Miata a run for it's money. The point is there are sport coupes for very differing tastes. You can't always measure a cars appeal strictly by the numbers it makes. Unfortunately too many people do this. A Dodge Challenger RT does not have the best numbers in the muscle car group. However the car is still very cool and a great cruiser with reasonable handling when needed. The 350Z is certainly a more focused sports car then a Camaro or Mustang but probably not as comfortable in day to day driving or going a long distance. I own an 06 Mini CooperS. I know it's not as refined as a Golf GTI but I like its rawness and chucability. I'm sure driving a GTI I would admire it's refinement and feeling I was in a hatchback Audi. I guess it just gets down to "different strokes for different folks".

But to the basic question "yes" if I were looking for a convertable and I wanted somthing more interesting then a Miata. The Toyobaru should be quite a bit quicker then a Miata. I'm guessing it probably would appraoch the performance of an S2000 but with more refinement,and better low end torque from it's flat four engine.

it looks like a good Hyundai genesis coupe competitor. pending the price, but it wont drive well.

As a RHT, yes.

However, that would defeat the purpose of a small, LIGHT, CHEAP, sporty car given the weight and cost of the RHT would really push the dollar figure up. I'm really not a soft-top person, but to each his/her own.
