Who knows it may even beat the LF-A into production. Although I have read on sites on the internet the LF-A is still in development, it remains a myth in my books. The old XJ was a very fast car. The new XJ220 should put Jaguar back into serious contention as not only a luxury car maker but one that has sporting pedigree.

I drooled after the first XJ220 back in 1989 when it was supposed to be all wheel drive and carry a V12 engine. It was my dream car for years. But I have a question. How is Jaguar planning to hit 220mph with only 510hp? Unless this car is kept on a serious diet I don't see it happening. They can say what they want but the car in that recent XFR run was WAAAY more modified than they're letting us in on.

what's funny is I was just at the NAIAS and the Jag announcer was talking about that Bonneville run -- he was directing everyone to watch the "totally stock XF-R run 227mph, the fastest Jag ever, on the monitors to [his] left". And all the magazines and online sites have glossed over that, as well, calling that XF-R "essentially stock", etc. I didn't realize fiddling with the computer, changing the supercharger boost, and adding 100hp was "totally stock", "essentially stock", or anything remotely related to "stock". By Jag's methodology, I guess an SL65 AMG Black and a regular SL65 are the same car then.

The Nissan GTR can reach it top speed of 193mph with only 430whp. The Zr1 can only do 205mph with almost 100whp more. If Jaguar can get the car slippery and stable enough its quite possible since its going to be mid engined.

If this is an exercise in contemporary Jaguar styling then I must say -- WHOA! This car looks unreal. I am not usually taken back by vehicle design and put careful thought and consideration into my assessments, but man this Jaguar captures and emotional gravity only capable of a truly emotive brand. I see commentary about the LF-A here all the time, but this is a great reference point -- LF-A is a vehicle that is clearly developed through CAD while there is a much more crafted touch apparent in this Jaguar. I am not saying which vehicle is better, but you can instantly see which has greater emotional resonance based on styling only -- this vehicle exudes a sultry hostility that is not created by the more racy feel of the LF-A. This car captures Jaguar's intrinsic value - beauty.

Do you even have any idea of what Ford did for Jaguar & Land Rover? Ford is the ONLY reason both manufacturers are still around today. It is Ford's capital that has allowed Jaguar to develop the new XK, XF, etc. Ford also did the same for Aston Martin allowing it to develop the flexible architecture that has given us the Vanquish, DB9, Vantage and Rapide next. Ford's cash from the 1990's has allowed MANY manufacturers to be alive today. Ford's only mistake was they did not get their own house in order when times were good. Almost everyone blames Ford for the S-type (best selling Jaguar ever in NA) and X-Type as being Ford products. They were not -- the same platform sharing happens today across many manufacturers including VW-Audi-Porsche-Lambo-Bentley, but they are NOT Ford so they get a break. Get some context and inform your opinion. Ford is the SAVIOR of the prestigious English brands.
