Jaguar planning Audi A5, BMW 3-Series rival

Speaking to AutoCar at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Jaguar’s engineering boss Mick Mohan said that the company is planning a rival to the Audi A5 and the BMW 3-Series.

He said that the much talked about XE sportscar is one of the several options being considered to replace the X-Type.

“The X-Type won’t be around forever, and because we don’t plan to replace it, there are lots of possibilities for cheaper models,” Mohan said. “Personally, I’d love to make a compact coupe – an Audi a5 or BMW 3-series coupe rival. I think we’d make a really good one too.”

NO they havent Ford tried to tell people that a Mondeo was a Jaguar. That was the failure.

What you are seeing here is the same progression that BMW had in the 90's. Fairly low production (compared to todays numbers) in a RWD form. Work up your Sold mid range customer base (5 series/XF) Drop in a killer full size sedan, make everyone lust after your cars. Then drop the 40k small sedan on em.

I bet in 10 years Jaguar will be making 60k cars a year. Including the Jaguar "Range Rover Sport"
