Jeremy Clarkson Drives the GT-R - Top Gear Video of Nissan's Super Car!
A special thanks to reader Aston_Martin for the tip and link on this video.

The GT-R is an absolutely amazing machine, and watching it go around the track in this video made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.  This is one seriously fast car.

Enjoy the video.

Unbelievable cornering. I'm left speechless.

It seems there's endless grip while at the same time RWD-biased.

That is just one suberb automobile. AMazing how much less it costs than the competition it beats/meets. Amazing!

I'll bet you Nissan loses a bundle on each one they sell. The GTR's purpose (much like the R8) is to boost Nissan's image, so the price they ask (even with the inevitable dealer markups) has nothing to do with the manufacturing costs. If a company were really interested in pricing the GTR correctly (with appropriate profit margins), the car would be priced in the same range as the cars the GTR is designed to compete with performance wise.

Agent 63, I'll give you credit. That was not something that needed to be deboosted. You are entirely right to your opinion. I would agree with you that it lacks the refinement of the cars it is compared to. I honestly do not believe that was Nissan's goal. I believe they gave the car a nice link back to its heritage via the interior and exterior design. All along they have been claiming only its performance would put it in supercar range. So to your point, mission accomplished. Nissan has quite an accomplishment on their hands. So in my opinion, there is really no need to deboost you.

"Were they really the horsepower Nissan claims or is it somewhere near 500-ish like some article that popped up on the website indicated."

When porsche 911 and gtr were test in that same time on that same dyno they obtained very similar results in horsepower , so gtrs probably have 480 hp ( or the same as 911 turbo if 911 turbo don`t has 480 hp like porsche claims ) :

Which GTR is really the one being delivered? A youtube video showing a Z06 walking away from one in a street race in Oman. BMW Roundel is reporting that the infamous 7 min 29 sec 'ring run was accomplished by a GTR modded to nearly 700 hp. Then there's the C&D and R&T times that seem to give times that make much more sense for a 2 tonner.

One thing for sure is that the GTR is an incredible car, and the lap around Top Gear's test track is most impressive. However, I have never seen a car with such a vast span of performance numbers. Edmunds had the 0-60 in 3.3 secs. all the way up to Car and Driver's 4.1 secs. That is an awfully big difference especially when you're talking about an awd car with launch control(very hard to screw up). These kind of figures invite the conspiracy theorists. Dispite this, it would be the performance car I would own under 100k.

Air temperature, Humidity, and Atmospheric pressure. C&D may have tested it somewhere else. there are many variables that make a world of difference in a cars performance. Motorweek got 5.1 sec o-60 for the C63 AMG slower than I have ever seen. Air temperature, density, humidity and atmospheric presure and elevation make quite a significant impact.

85bmw,
Obviously that's true. However, in this case, the rest of vehicles tested in the C&D article, were consistent with tests in the other publications.

Me thinks a lot of owners are going to get disappointed when they discover most of the record performance figures are from ringer cars that were heavily modified from stock.
If you look at the specs for the car and the ring times something does not add up.Also the mark ups from dealers is laughable ( $100,000 for a Nissan),styling is too 90s rice racer for my taste.

Say what you will, but If that were the case, it wouldn't have done so well on the top gear track as well. Look at the cars it beat, and was within a couple of tenths of catching the Enzo, and if the stig would have gotten a better launch it might have tied or even barely beat it. I know this car will never appeal to owners of ferrari's, ETC, but it will surely catch the attention of more open minded buyers shooping for the corvette. I like it better than the vette simply for having much more features and a way better built interior. Most vette shoppers are too patriotic and don't care if the GTR is better or not, they only buy American, but the more open minded vette shoppers will give it a look, and I think they will be more than impressed, especially with the handling.

No, what they will be disappointed with will be getting walked in a straight line, because this car isn't that fast in one. They may also be disappointed with their 8-9 min ring times because they don't realize they aren't professional drivers.

As much as I hate to say it, that video was impressive. it does hug the road very well. Even if it is modded from stock to show off, who's to say some one who gets it wont mod the vehicle? i have not seen one in the street or sat in one, so I cannot say whether it is race only, or has a little daily driver to it.
On the straight away, I was expecting more than 165mph, it was probably faster though since he was too scared to look down with his crick in his neck!

clearly, the journalists are given cars that have been modified, there can be little doubt considering the great discrepancy in performance that is being reported. Even Clarkson makes the point at the beginning of the video about the particular car he was driving having about "a million hp". When the ringers are gone, we'll see the real GTR

Maybe if I could sell my kids for medical experiments, set my current cars on fire, fake a fall down some stairs at business I could get one. Honestly tho I did not care for the looks at first.......But its growning on me quickly. What a fantastic piece of car for the money.
