GM may have given up on the Los Angeles Auto Show, but the industry’s troubles won’t be everybody’s trouble. The word is out that Kia is having two showstoppers planned. First there’s the Soul urban crossover, of course, with its new face for the Korean brand. There are also talks of a second important unveiling from the Korean carmaker, in the form of the Borrego Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV).

This concept SUV comes with Kia’s third-generation fuel-cell stack. There are signs that it will highlight important improvements for the technology, consisting of sub-freezing starting capability, enhanced fuel cell output and a totally fresh lithium-ion polymer battery with improved cycling and charging. The Borrego FCEV could be a step toward a creation of a fuel-cell vehicle originating from Kia, which would put the carmaker ahead of the expanding electric car market.
