For a very long time we kept a close eye out on the development of Mercedes-Benz's latest project, the Mercedes-Maybach. Although Maybach may have technically closed its doors years ago, the three-pointed star is going to give it another go and make it a sub-brand under the Mercedes nameplate.

Essentially, the Mercedes-Maybach will be an even more stretched S-Class sedan with more luxurious accoutrements to make any C-level executive or head of state giggle like a little schoolgirl.

Now although we've seen A LOT of spy pics and video of these vehicles sporting AMG body kits and trim, in a conference Mercedes' top personnel did not mention any AMG variants. As of now there will be three engines offered in Maybach form:

- An S400 featuring a 3.0-liter V6
- An S500/550 featuring a 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8
- An S600 featuring a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12

No word on whether the U.S. market will receive the S400 or S550 variant, yet. Since the S600 will debut in Los Angeles, we're assuming that's a definite "green light" for The States.

Just below that will be the S500 version of the new sedan, which will use a twin-turbocharged V8 making 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The base model in the range will be a V6 version that will make use of the corporate 3.0-liter engine, rated at 333 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. The S400 4Matic will reportedly be aimed at markets, such as China, with punitive taxes toward large-displacement cars. At least for now, it will be the sole all-wheel-drive model in the range....
