This week so called patent images leaked of the rumored Jaguar F-Type coupe. And while people were finding that to be the big news story, I don't think that's the right way to think of it right now.
First off, this type of "leak" has happened before. Those "patent images" could simply be for the concept CX16, which debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
While a lot of the auto journo community has been putting the Porsche 911 (991) cabriolet head-to-head with the all-new F-Type convertible, I think the coupe is really where the battle will happen. Assuming, of course, that Jaguar goes full-steam ahead here with making the CX16 a reality.
That's because the two seater convertible market is more or less a tough sell right now. The coupes, on the other hand, to me seems like where market share will be eroded. Plus, after seeing the CX16 pictures from Agent 001, I could care less about the 911 — and I ADORE the 911.
The Jaguar looks timeless and while the 911 is the epitome of that, there's just something extra special the Porsche lacks to me.
What say you?
