70,000 orders so far.

It seems that the new generation A-Class is turning out to be quite a success for Mercedes-Benz as Daimler has decided to add a third shift to the Rastatt factory in Germany in order to meet the strong demand. Since June when the A-Class was introduced Mercedes has received 70,000 orders. To keep up with the pace they will add a third shift from next week.

Rastatt plant director Peter West made a statement yesterday saying that “we have expanded our full-time work force by 500 permanent staff and now well positioned to deliver the cars to our customers as soon as possible.”

The new version of the A-Class is an important component of CEO Dieter Zetsche’s plan to make Mercedes-Benz more competitive in the battle with Audi and BMW.
