Even if the auto industry has been suffering quite a lot recently, it is still intent in getting through to the future. This is demonstrated clearly in Mitsubishi’s announcement that it will be increasing it production target for the iMiEV from the original 10,000 units annually to 20,000 by 2012, a 200% increase.
For 2010, production targets have also been boosted from 4,000 to 5,000 vehicles, a 25% increase. This will bring the new total production target of 10,000 cars by next year, with the yearly 20,000 unit target to concur with the car’s release for retail sale in 2011. The production output of the iMiEV is already reserved, but not yet actually sold, with requests from corporations totaling 2,000 units. The diminutive electric vehicles are made to meet the kei-class regulations of Japan, which offer them the benefit of certain parking, insurance and taxation guidelines. The iMiEV is also an ideal compact four-seater city vehicle.
