When the Volt hits the market in 2010, a new cottage industry will open up due in part to a major manufacture supplying the market demand. What company will dominate the EV industry is yet to be seen, but as it seems, GM is at the leading edge. With the new GM leading the way, they will be wise to levy this to their advantage, unlike decisions in the past.

As early as summer 2010, auto manufacturers will start shipping plug-in hybrids and other electric-vehicles in volume. According to a new research done by Pike Research, the global installed base of charging locations will surpass 5 million with equipment revenues of $6.5 million by 2015.

“While electric vehicles will be primarily charged at home, a strong funding push by governments will mean that more than half of all charge points will be public charging stations by 2015,” says industry analyst John Gartner. “Retailers will also install public access stations primarily as a marketing tool, and many companies will also offer workplace charging stations for their employees.”
