After an intense two days at the 2013 New York Auto Show, it has finally come to a close. Day one was so packed 001 and I didn't even get a spot of lunch! Though we knew going into the Javits Center that this particular show really is a consumer-facing event, we were ultimately surprised by a couple of things.

- A pre-event party that showed off a vehicle to debut in Shanghai was one of the major vehicles at the show. Of course the problem is it wasn't technically shown.

- Seeing is believing. Though pictures are nice to see before a vehicle's unveiling, an in-person once over really is the best way to judge a vehicle's looks.

- We're at a fork in the road. There are two paths for automakers: 1) Edgy and risky, or 2) Using the same playbook. It's clear that the manufacturers have been confronted with major decisions to make. It's even MORE clear who went in each direction.

From what we've seen, the winners are getting risky and really putting out edgy products that people gravitate to.
