Rumors of a replacement for Cadillac's aging DTS sedan have circulated the web for ages now, but today brings a report of what's finally going to happen.



The new Caddy will get an XTS badge and will be designed to compete with BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus in the full-size segment.

That is the difference sts and a dts. Hell could some explain the other 17574 other combinations cadillac seems to make with 3 letter acronyms gimmic.

lol Cadillac has a handful of models, im confused as to what the issue is where is the other 17574 models out of the "5" cadillacs sold that have a 3 letter name and only 4 in the US......maybe you mean another brand.

Finally I’m glad to see Cadillac do something about the long in the tooth DTS. Hydra-Matic 4-speed auto-trannies circa late 90’s styling is not befitting of a luxury car in this class today. Even those in the more mature crowd are bored with this current car. Hopefully Cadillac will inject some CTS soul in this new DTS replacement as well as an all-new V8 (at least a 4.8L) or slightly smaller Turbo 8 and a tyranny of at least 7 cogs or more. Then further excite us with a –V series to entice the enthusiast. While I’m sure die hard MB and BMW fans won’t flood the show rooms. A well build, looking and, priced XTS would take the pressure of the CTS (which now basically carries the company) and could get more people interested in the brand.

I don't know how to respond. I'm hoping the XTS will be a competent replacement for the DTS and STS. I liked the STS, but it suffered from having being built on the Sigma platform, which didn't wasn't very sport-oriented. If it built on say, a modified Camaro or G8 platform, there may be a lot of nervous foreign competition.

Ya know....I'd like to see GM use design ideas from the SS & Sixteen concepts to make the new XTS.

The basic Chevy SS concept has been thoroughly "aped" by M-B, VW, Porsche, Aston Martin, etc.

Sigma does actually have quite a bit of sport in it. The current and previous CTS-Vs prove that. Also the Sigma SRX consistently placed well in its class, primarily due to its sporty chassis.

Since they are replacing it, they should have a sedan, coupe and crossover variants, with a Turbocharged 4 (displacement maybe 2.5L), a 6 Cyl Diesel and gas versions, Supercharged V8, V10, and V12.

As a Matter of fact the Cadillac Converj should be the replacement. With the Plug in as the top of the line model, a lower end mild Hybrid as the next one down, and then have gas and possibly diesel ones as the money makers.

The Converj is probably the basis for the 3/C competitor..........if it looks as good as the concept, and shows Cadillac's recent performance trends, it should be a winner.
