One of the cooler things about living in Bergen County, New Jersey is that I am surrounded by large corporate entities that have decided to make this area their home. Of course it makes sense for these companies to be located about 20 minutes outside of New York City. There's just been one growing problem: taxes.

This is what may have been the catalyst for Mercedes-Benz USA to consider moving its Montvale, New Jersey-based headquarters to the south. As of now nothing is official; however, insiders have indicated that rumors surfaced in September about the North American arm moving its operations south. The latest information suggests that it would join Porsche Cars North America in Atlanta.

Since December New Jersey officials have been working hard to try and keep MBUSA here though the conversations and actions have remained under lock and key. I've seen two billboards located on main thoroughfares professing the country's love for MBUSA and asking for the company to stay.

According to reports there is a corporate event Tuesday where an announcement is expected. We should know within short order if MBUSA has packed its bags or if the company will stay put.


New Jersey officials have offered Mercedes-Benz USA a “substantial financial package” of incentives to try to keep the German auto company from moving its North American headquarters out of North Jersey, state Sen. Gerald Cardinale said on Friday.

Mercedes-Benz, which employs about 1,000 people in Montvale, has declined to comment on reports that it is considering a move south, possibly to Atlanta. The company has scheduled its annual president’s reception on Tuesday with employees at the Park Ridge Marriott, and some employees, speaking on the condition of anonymity, have speculated that the luxury-car maker might announce plans to move at that time. According to a source, Georgia is offering Mercedes-Benz tax incentives of $40 million to $50 million...
