Nissan Motor Co.

is throwing down the gauntlet for Honda and Toyota in North America, claiming that its next-generation Pathfinder will deliver the best fuel economy in the mid-sized SUV-crossover segment.

The 2013 Pathfinder has dropped 500 pounds to deliver fuel economy of 20 mpg city/26 highway and 22 combined as a front-wheel-drive model, and 19/25/21 in its all-wheel-drive version, Nissan says.

My first impression was a Highlander with an RX front. 26mpg is OK but you can get way better mileage driving a station wagon.

I do like Nissan/Infiniti dashes though.

Boo to Nissan. They should not turned the Pathfinder into this. Very disappointing. As proven by the many new 4Runners on the road, there was still a very viable market for that type of vehicle, while still plenty of room for buyers of the Highlander and Venza/Murano. Nissan should have made a whole new model line and kept the spirit of the existing Pathfinder (as a separate vehicle)

It looks so short. It would've been nicer if it was a rear wheel drive. But, why does Nissan use such ugly wood trim?
