Nissan plans to build an Infiniti plant in North America part of its plan to manufacture at least 100,000 premium vehicles annually.
“One of the challenges we face is that we really do not have a diversified geographical footprint for manufacturing,” Infiniti Motor Co. President Johan de Nysschen said Sunday.
He added that besides manufacturing a model in the US, all Infiniti’s production is concentrated in Japan. The automaker will most likely begin producing 100,000 Infiniti vehicles in the US, starting with 2017 when it plans to shift production globally from Japan. In May last year Infiniti announced its strategy to manufacture two models for China with Nissan’s partner Dongfeng Motor.
