As was reported earlier, the Volkswagen Mark VI Golf hatch will not come with the Rabbit nameplate when it hits the markets of the US near the close of 2009. The Rabbit designation was brought back three years ago by VW of America after it was dropped in the wake of the termination of the first-generation Golf way back in the early 80s.

It was suggested to assist in promoting the Golf by referring back to some of the American longing for the Mark I Golf, but regrettably, VW had forgotten about the bad experience of the Americans with regards the first Rabbit. When VW reintroduced the Rabbit nameplate it did nothing significant to help the sales of the Mark V Golf. So, it is expected that the Mark VI version will be called a Golf.
