GM said that it has been talking with many potential buyers and has revealed that the new owner of Opel will be decided by the end of this month. The carmaker said further that the owner will not be decided by the German government although their views would be seriously taken into account so that whoever the next owner will be GM will make sure that they will be suitable for the government.
The German government will be instrumental in the sale of Opel since they would be providing 2.6 billion Euros in loan guarantees to fund a new company. It was not disclosed by GM how much of its European business it will put up for sale or of details concerning the structure of any deal.
