As we continue to watch the meandering journey that is happening with diesel-powered vehicles, it appears that Volkswagen has no other choice but to move on from the alternative fuel option. Though the company did its best to hold on, the now famous Dieselgate scandal has ensured that there’s not likely a future for TDI powerplants at VW in the US.

So, now what?

Though the Germans have always toyed with all-electric vehicle options, it’s clear as day that the company is going to be attacking the space full bore. Its first concept is an all-new EV called the I.D.

Perhaps this is VW’s way of telling us that it is searching for an all-new identity?

Though details remain rather light, here are a few things we do know:

1) It will get somewhere between 400-600 kilometers on a charge;
2) The I.D. previews all-new design language that VW will apply to its fleet of EVs;
3) It will launch in 2020 in parallel with an all-new Golf;
4) In 2025, the I.D. will be fully autonomous;
5) For some reason, VW engineers developed it so that it can receive packages if the owner is not around.

Let us know what you think after taking it in below!
