The 2009 S4 will receive Audi’s new 3.0 TFSi engine, a supercharged 3.0-litre, direct-injection V6 unit that is rumored to produce about 333Hp –some say it will deliver around 350Hp. The V6 engine will me matted to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual clutch semi-auto transmission. I love the changes and the LED lights. I’m glad the S4 won’t get a V8 the current model has and will get a powerful supercharged V6. enjoy the pics! What do you think of the car? Read Article

I love that the Audi A/S4 received the A/S5 makeover. The previous body was starting to get stale on me.

well for one thing in AMERICA for years the "S4" has competed with the M3.......while the V6 A4 competed with the top non m offering either the 328i or 330i and the 2.0 4 has competed with the 325i.......so I fail to see the frustration.......

bmwdrvrbmwdrvr - 6/19/2008 3:10:41 PM
0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
and as a matter of fact SUPPOSEDLY THE RS cars were suppose to be above the M cars....or so many Audi fanatics say...hence them being more money and having more power...than even some of the M or AMG cars.......for whatever reason

good point bmwdrvr.....NOT

When the new RS4 was released it left the m3 in the dust, as will the new RS4 that comes out with the b8 structure. So, those 'fanatics' are actually right, because the RS division is above the M division. There is no need for audi to have a straight through competitor to the M3. They have the A4 which competes all the way up to the 328i, and the S4 takes care of the 335i. And the RS4 obliterates the remains.

how can anyone be so critical on the backend of the E90 3-series and then love the new A4? huh? The new A4/S4 is horrible looking from the backend. Also dont care for the front either. The prior S4 is much sportier.

Agree with JCH335 - S4 competes with the 335 , the RS4 competes with the M3.

S4 ... that is my opinion onto what the body style is looking like. I am not a big fan. The fact is that this car doesnt have much in regards to body camouflage. It is not, in my opinion, as sharp as the prior model going out. Apparently, I can only comment if it is based on fact. Fact, the new A4 still will not compete that well with the 3-series.

well with the 3.2 needing 265hp to get to 60 in 7.0 seconds lol slower than the 328i by the way I'm sure they will need a supercharger or 2 extra cylinders to keep pace with the 335i, G35, C350, or even the CTS DI

deboost if you like but I 265hp and 0-60 in 7.0 seconds is rediculous....the old G35 was getting a little less than 6.0 with 260 the old 330i e46 could run a 6.2 with almost 40 less horses and the 328i with again 35 less horsepower is also faster its crazy that much power and so slow......while still not being able to trump the 3 series in the handling department.....wheres the accomplishment????? im lost

a full 6 tenths of a second slower than a C350 in this test and the C350 only has 3 more horsepower....while the 328i is faster than it is with alot less horses....

+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
a normal magazine will get the regular A4 with the V6 to 60 in the low 6 second range, even edmunds managed 6.6

The A5 with the same engine gets to 60 as quick as 5.5 seconds.

The S4 will be significantly below 5 seconds.

bmwdrvrbmwdrvr - 6/20/2008 2:41:29 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
no edmunds got 6.9 I posted the article there.....6.6 was with a roll out a typical 0-60 test is 6.9......wow the Audi fans cluth for anything......again still sad that in that exact same test the C360 .6 faster. and the less powerful 328i is also faster.......not to mention the A5 has never hit a time of 5.5 seconds more like 6.0 to as high as 6.4 seconds.....but thanks for proving my point on how you have to create numbers to justify these poor performing Audis......lol I even posted the article showing a 6.9 how sad....

bmwdriver you have to be joking these cars are consumer grade if you are looking for race cars then why dont you just compare audi's victories to bmw's and see that bmw isnt anywhere near audi. Audi had their quattro technology banned because of lack of competition and that was after what 15-20 years. If you are fighting about who is a better company you mean to tell me your great bmw can't come up with a system to counter quattro after 20 years??

No more aluminum/metal finish on the mirrors. I loved that on the current S4. Was a great visual differentiation.

All A4/S4's should of had the rear LED lights. Everyone else uses them.

Still love the A4/S4, but the S4 looks to close to a A4 S-Line.

Can't wait to get mine in. Had it ordered since April.

A 350hp supercharged 3.0 V6 would be great. Add to it AWD and perhaps the 7 speed DSG and I'll take one in dolphin gray. Looks more attractive than the 335xi sedan IMO. It's bigger size gives it the allusion of being closer to the A6/5-series than the 3 series. Also allows it to have longer curves, whereas the 335 sedan looks like the back chopped off a few inches too short.

Don't hate, just me .02.

If i'm in the market for a coupe, though, the 335 has it covered.

Any powerplant predictions for the next RS4? A small displacement supercharged/turbocharged V8 would be nice. Like a 3.6 or 3.8L supercharged V8 with 420hp??? Maybe they could take a page from Ferrari's book and make a strung out 3.6L NA V8 w/ 400hp....not likely though.

Are we sure this isn't an S-line A4, because that's exactly what it looks like.

If this is the new S4, it doesn't stand out as much as the previous car, and losing the aluminum mirrors and unique rims was a mistake.

I really don't think this is it.

The red ones in the pictures look like regular S-Line A4s. The silver ones have the quad exhaust (and the S4 badge). I think that explains why the red ones don't have the aluminium door mirrors as well (because they're not S4s).

It would have looked much better at the rear with stacked exhausts like those of the IS-F. For some reason I think of the word "badass" everytime I see the IS-F exhausts.

The IS-F quad exhaust look weak when you realize two of the pipes are for show and non funcational. Leave it to the Japaneese. It's also too boy racer. Very Rice.

I can't believe some of the people here. So quick to jump to the dumbest conclusions.

1. IT'S UNFINISHED. Notice how it doesn't have the current S4's pinstriped grille or aluminum mirrors. It also lacks all "S4" badging.

2. It is most definitely an S4. Check the tailpipes. Like I said, though, it's unfinished. When it reaches production it will look better than the B7 S4. This one doesn't even have foglamps, which will more likely than not make it to the production model. There's a reason why this car is not disguised! There's nothing to disguise yet!

I agree with Jugnu. This could be a standard FWD A4 with a 1.6 liter engine they sell in Europe. FWD has no place in luxury cars and this is why I don't consider Audi a true premium brand since they're FWD based, most of them.

why didn't Audi use Turbo's instead of the supercharger? Isn't the turbo more efficient? supercharger saps power to make power, turbo uses the spent gases.

That's been the conventional wisdom for some time, 07mcs. I had the same initial reaction when I first heard about it.

However, new superchargers are more efficient than before (80% efficiency), and "turbo lag" is eliminated altogether. Also, the supercharger Audi is using takes up less space than a twin turbocharger.

The proof is in the pudding. Wait until the new S4 comes out.

I'd like to add that if Audi had come out with a 3.0L TT V6, how many people do you think would just assume they are copying BMW or Nissan? I'd be willing to bet that it would be a lot.

07mcs07mcs - 6/20/2008 1:22:31 AM
0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
I for one don't really care about the who copied who comments. I just want to see the most efficient way to get the most power out of those 3 liters, be it with twin turbo or the supercharger.

Might I add that the new MINI's Turbo engine is more fuel efficient and powerful than the old supercharged engine.

EvoAudiEvoAudi - 6/20/2008 1:31:45 AMView My AgentSpace

A Supercharger gets the power down faster, that probably explains why it is being used for the S4, remember though Audi makes great Turbo engines too, they still have many tricks up their sleeve for the years to come.

Once again Audi barely does anything with the design. How long can they keep the same general design alive? I mean, let's try something new and different because this is getting really boring. Maybe this is why they are getting killed in sales by the other premium brands (will mention no particular monikers).
