Audi's former boss, Johan de Nysschen, was one of the folks behind the four rings turnaround. Since his move to Infiniti it appears that marque is beginning to do the same thing. Of course, given the lead time for development, we really won't see this bad boy's potential for approximately another three to five years.

It's a lot like a diesel locamotive, you have to give it time to start up, but once it's moving it's a powerful force to stop.

If you were to look across the brand's product lineup, you'd notice that the one area it doesn't have a competitive offering is in the entry-level premium category. This would put an Infiniti up against the likes of Audi's A3, BMW's 1-Series, Lexus' CT200h and Mercedes-Benz's CLA-Class.

With the CLA shooting out the lights — they're really starting to swarm the New York Tri-State area in short order — I think it's clear that there is market for a high-class looking vehicle with a premium badge that delivers the goods.

This is where the Q30 comes in.

Seen in this rendering for the first time, it depicts the new styling language that pervades Infiniti's products. Note the Q50-inspired facade, swoopy lines flowing front to back, and finally, the reverse kink in the D-Pillar.

If Infiniti built it, would you come?
