So, while everyone was looking, and drooling, over the upcoming BMW M2, it seems that the Bavarians decided to slip one under most folks nose. That would be the all-new X4 M40i.

While we were aware of the latest M Performance model to come, it wasn't making a lot of noise. Partially due to the fact the test vehicle wasn't shouty and partly due to the fact there wasn't too much information about it.

Now that the cat's been out of the bag for the past several days, the full info was released tonight and we're checking out the specs on this all-new engine. Let's see, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder equipped with a turbo that's good for 355 horsepower and 343 lb.-ft of torque.

Hmm.

Considering speculation has pinned power for the upcoming M2 anywhere from 360-380 horsepower, it seems completely reasonable that with a few adjustments that the M40i's motor would be more than capable of putting out that figure. We are pretty doubtful that the outputs will be the same for a proper M car as an M Performance vehicle.

Having said that, are we onto something? What say you, Spies?
