While the Porsche Carrera GT was an unbelievable product in the 2000s, I think we can all agree that we're excited to see where Porsche takes its next flagship supercar, the 918. Now the latest word on the street is a suggestion from an overseas publication that this Porsche masterpiece will offer a "Race Track" package. While I don't exactly doubt its authenticity, we also do have to keep in mind the story isn't a confirmation in any respect. There aren't any direct quotes from Porsche leadership.I would wonder why they wouldn't just produce a limited RSR or RS version and just let the folks go that route instead of a packaged option. [Shrug]. Well, I guess Porsche has noted the success of AMG's Performance Package option checkbox, which seems to have gone over quite well as of late...Porsche 918 Spyder customers will be able to specify a more focused track version of the car. The Race Track package will be sold at a premium price, and come with a stripped-out interior and the option of no paint. The weight saving is reported to be around 30kg.The target weight for the standard car, which is powered by a race-derived 4.6-litre V8 and two electric motors producing 762bhp and 552lb ft in total, is “less than 1700kg” according to Porsche.2011 Detroit Auto Show Photo GalleryRead Article
