Recall WEDENSDAY:Ford Recalls 2008 Edge, Lincoln MKX for Potential Fire Hazard
The Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX are two of the automaker's newest offerings and are key to the long-term health of the company.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall centers around a fuel tank weld fixture which may have been exposed to a contaminant during production. This could cause a dimple in the bottom of the fuel tank at a spot weld, according to NHTSA's recalls summary of the problem. "This dimple could result in a fuel leak or a fuel drip from the tank," said NHTSA. "Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire."
Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel tank free of charge. The recall is expected to kick off sometime in July. Owners can contact Ford at 866-437-7332

Is Ford burning innocent motorists to death again? How does this company stay in business??? Their products have been unsafe to operate for years. Ford has a history of unsafe products:
1. Tempo sedans in the 80's had spontaneous engine fires (my uncle had one - the tempo AND the fire)
2. Aerostar minivans in the 80's and early 90's had spontaneous engine fires
3. Crown Victoria sedans were manufactured with a beam over the fuel tank which punctures the tank and starts a fire in rear collisions.
4. Explorers flipping over on bad tires
5. now this - engine fires again.
DON'T BUY A FORD. YOU MAY NOT LIVE TO REGRET IT!!!

@pushrod27
You forgot the big one, the cruise control switch fires in all the big trucks and SUV's recently.
As far as this recall goes, though... It seems like a more minor thing. Contaminants during welding? Yeah, COULD be a problem, but they didn't say anything HAS happened with them. This one's just Ford covering their ass, which is not a bad thing.

I have never had problems with any of my Fords either. The 4.6L V8 purrs like a kitten, and goes when I want it to.
