Echappement, the French motor sport publication, has chosen the Renault Megane R26.R as the victor of its much-sought after Sportive de l’Annee or Sports Model of the Year award. This is the sixth occasion where Renault was named as the winner of this highly-prized honor.
The winners prior to this were the Renault 5GT Turbo in 1985, Clio 16S (1991), Spider Renault Sport (1996), Clio Renault Sport (2000) and Meane F1 Team R26 (2007). Renault is the auto manufacturer which has garnered the most number of ‘Sports Model of the Year’ honors since 1982 when Echappement originally launched the award. Mégane R26.R was developed by the Renault Sport Technologies and is the sportiest variant of theMégane Renault Sport range. It was designated ‘Sports Model of the Year 2008' by a board of Echappement writers and visitor readers.
