It might have come a little late to the SUV party during the 1990s, but Toyota certainly has made up for it in the number of models offered - six wearing Toyota badges and three more in Lexus stores.

One of the newest is today's subject - the 2006 RAV4, which went on sale in late December and is the latest iteration of a vehicle that debuted in 1995.

It's redesigned, enlarged almost to the proportions of Toyota's more expensive Highlander and is now a stronger entry in the "crossover" sport-utility-vehicle arena, a segment of the automotive market that seems to have been given an extra boost by rising gasoline prices.
