In an open letter published February 18, Rolls-Royce chairman Peter Schwarzenbauer and chief executive Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes confirmed the development of “an all-new Rolls-Royce with exceptional presence, elegance and purpose … a high-bodied car with an all-new aluminum architecture ... that can cross any terrain.” If you thought the 2016 Bentley Bentayga would be the ultimate luxury SUV, you were wrong.

Rolls-Royce is giving its project – called “Cullinan” for the biggest diamond ever discovered -- the green light. “It is worth knowing that this is not a derivative of an up-market BMW X,” stresses Klaus Froehlich, the group’s freshly appointed board member in charge of research and development. “Instead, we are preparing a special vehicle that fuses unmistakable design with exceptional craftsmanship and a second-to-none driving experience.”
